In December, East Devon District Council, Seaton Town Council, Seaton’s Voice and Seaton Museum confirmed the intention to secure the long term future of Seaton Town Hall, by the transfer of the freehold interest from East Devon District Council to Seaton Town Council.
Seaton Town Council will lease the Town Hall, excluding the area currently occupied by Seaton Museum, to Seatons Voice. This plan would secure the future of the Gateway Entertainment Venue, Seaton Museum and the continued use of the hall by community groups.
Seaton Town Council would then relocate from Seaton Town Hall to Marshlands.
Great strides have already been made in the first two months of 2016, and we remain on track to complete agreements by the end of March.
Even since I updated East Devon District Council Cabinet on 10th February, there has been further rapid progress.
Cllr Marcus Hartnell, leading the project for Seaton Town Council;
“I am pleased to be able to report that Seaton Town Council agreed the main terms of a lease agreement with the Seaton Gateway Theatre Company at our meeting on Monday 22nd February. Discussions are also taking place with Seaton Museum.
We look forward to making further progress over the coming weeks”
Elga Mackie of Seatons Voice added;
“We are pleased to confirm that we have reached agreement with Seaton Town Council on the main terms of our proposed lease of Seaton Town Hall.,
We presented our plans for the Seaton Gateway Theatre Company to our customers and volunteers, in a public meeting on 23rd February.
Visitors to the Town Hall will already see that we have been ‘sprucing up’ the entrance area. We would like to thank our wonderful volunteers, customers and supporters and are looking forward to an exciting future together in the Town Hall.”
Cllr Ian Thomas, Portfolio Holder for Finance at EDDC concluded;
“I should like to add personal thanks to all from Seaton Town Council, Seatons Voice, Seaton Museum and my East Devon District Council Member and Officer colleagues, for the positive approach and enthusiasm being maintained.
The agreement of detailed main terms, both for the transfer of the Town Hall from East Devon District Council to Seaton Town Council and the lease from Seaton Town Council to Seatons Voice, is another significant step forward.
I remain confident, as documents are now in the hands of respective legal advisors, that we are still on target to complete agreements as planned by the end of March, in what is shaping up to be an exciting year for Seaton with the launch of the Seaton Jurassic visitor attraction this month.”
