We are delighted to announce that the tender for school meals has been awarded to Portlock’s Pantry of Axminster. Rachel Portlock was previously employed as the school cook at Chardstock School, and is currently supplying meals for Membury and Hawkchurch Schools. Rachel is committed to ensuring that the children receive healthy nutritious meals, and we all agreed that her proposal delivered the best service for all the schools using quality local suppliers and ingredients.
Rachel will be sourcing her fresh ingredients from local suppliers including Complete Meats in Axminster, Davys Locker in Bridport and Cain’s Farm in Bridport. Meals will be produced in the Chardstock School kitchen and delivered to the other 4 schools in insulated containers to be served by qualified staff.
We are presently finalising the contractual arrangements and organising electrical works at the Chardstock kitchen to expand it’s production capacity. The service will commence after Christmas in Membury, Hawkchurch and Chardstock Schools. Meals for Uplyme and All Saints Schools will be phased in when their serving facilities have been upgraded and staff have been employed and trained. It is anticipated that the service will be in place at Uplyme by the end of January, and All Saints after Spring half term.
The menu is being finalised for approval by the Governors and will be distributed to parents before Christmas. Individual schools will inform their parents of the ordering and payment system which will be in place at their school.
We do hope that you will all support our new caterer to ensure the ongoing service of hot school meals in the future.
On behalf of the Governors of all 5 schools,

Excellent news, I am convinced that a cooked meal at lunchtime helps children learn and develop. I for one will not miss the need to get a packed lunch together every morning!
